Subject: License cost when not connecting to a server?
Feedback Type: Question
Product Area: Notes Client
Technical Area: User Interface
Platform: Windows
Release: 8.5.2
Reproducible: Not applicable

I have been asked to provide access to Mail databases for someone who does not use Notes (ie. legal discovery).

I thought the best method would be to create a non-encrypted copy of a mail file, set the ACL for Anonymous & Default such that the user could at least have reader access to it, and install the Notes Basic client, without an ID nor connection to a server.

Since the Lotus Notes Client will not be connecting to a Domino server, is a license needed or is there a fee for this type of install? According to the IBM Licensing FAQ for Notes (http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/notesanddomino/clientlicensing.html) it does not appear a license is required, but I can't determine this definitively.

Brian
